The Virgin Islands

March 2006 - April 2006

After a family visit in Puerto Rico, we turned eastward again.  We stopped (for the second time) at Culebra in the Spanish Virgin Islands.

From Culebra we went to St. Thomas and then spent a couple of weeks in St. John.

From St. John we spent a lovely couple of weeks in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), snorkeling, swimming, and drinking Painkillers during beach barbeques.  I took only a few pictures during our visit to the BVI, and the ones I took were with an old camera and I don't have an electronic version of those pictures yet.  So I will have to post those later. (Click on the link below to read the story of The Old Camera who Could.)  Basically during this period my hands were full of rum drinks and I couldn't hang on to my camera (well, a small exaggeration, but you get the idea).

Fortunately, someone else took pictures of us having a rip-roaring good sail from Norman's Island to Beef Island off Tortola.  "Yachtshots" runs around in a dinghy and a professional camera taking photos of boats (mostly charterers) in the area so they can then sell them back to you.  This is just like how they do when you take a tour or go to Disneyland and they take your picture and try to get you to buy it.  In our case, we thought the pictures of our boat sailing away in the BVI (in a very unusual northwest wind) were gorgeous.  You can see our inflatable kayak stuffed on the port side deck (we were only going about 15 miles that day, what a life!)  Jackie is at the helm and Ken is running around setting the sails.  If you want to see us sailing, look for Ellipsis at www.yachtshotsbvi.com.  They will probably get a couple of bucks out of us for the cool pictures.
