We rented a car and drove up into the mountains west of Ponce to see the Coffee Harvest Festival. Once we turned off the highway, the road up the mountain was narrow and twisty but fortunately had very little traffic.
Before
we got to Maricao, we came upon a stone observation tower at the top of the
mountain. From the tower we could see to the Mona Passage, the sea west of
Puerto Rico that we crossed when we came from the Dominican Republic.
When
we arrived in Maricao, we found a charming town with interesting architecture.
Here is the church in the middle of the town.
The town was filled with little booths selling coffee, local arts and crafts, and snacks.
