Christmas 2004 in the Florida Keys

Ken enjoys practicing the guitar in the cockpit of Ellipsis during our recent Christmas trip from Tampa Bay down to the Florida Keys.

We had lots of wind (most passages made with 20-30 kts from the east - a great sail) and mostly sunshine.

Santa brought Jackie an inflatable kayak, and here she tries it out near Useppe Island at Boca Grande, Charlotte Harbor, where Hurricane Charley hit in August, 2004.  They were still rebuilding some of the facilities at the park on Cayo Costa when we were there in the beginning of January, but Cabbage Key was up and running.  There were also still repairs being made to the damaged homes on Useppe.

While exploring the Snake River(part of the Everglades) by dinghy , we came upon this fine example of one of Florida's many gated communities!  We didn't see any alligators but it was a fine place for herons and turtles.
